Blog syndication is not the easiest thing to do. If it was then I wouldn’t need to keep myself busy learning more each day about SEO and all the new things cropping up in the blogosphere. The weird thing about many bloggers though is that despite the fact that though we do want wider readership many are just to lazy to keep in touch with the trends or make a little effort to make the most out of the services we use.
Take Feedburner for instance. Feedburner didn’t win the 2006 Chicago Innovation Awards just because they burn feeds for you. Sure the feeds are the backbone of their service but they are innovative because they offer more than that. How many of you have actually clicked on each and every item under each tab (Analyze, Optimize, Publicize, Monetize and Troubleshootize) after burning your feeds and putting the chicklet on your blogs? Are you making the most out of your feeds? Are they really optimized?
How about your subscriptions? Do you really manage them? Do you even use a feed aggregator for that matter? And if you do, do you really get to scan the important feeds on a regular basis. It does matter what you read because not only will it give you ideas but it will help you stay ahead or at least abreast your competition/peers. If you do not Look Beyond your Own Blog you might as well forget about being able to give relevant content that regularly.
If your blog serves as a mere journal. Then this isn’t a big deal. If you are concerned about syndicating your blog though, and since you are here then you likely are, then do pay attention to the latest and the best online tools available to you. You won’t even need to get out of your chair to get to these tools so there’s no excuse for being a lazy blogger.
