5 Things You’re Doing Wrong On Social Media

So you created a social media profile, and you can’t figure out what you’re doing wrong.  You post pictures, you leave comments, and yet no one seems to be engaging.

So, what are you doing wrong? Believe it or not, social media isn’t as easy as it seems. There’s so much competition out there that you need to have the right strategies in place to stand out amongst the masses.

To improve your social media presence and expand you’re following, it’s essential to avoid the following mistakes.

Buying Followers

You may have seen advertisements for businesses claiming to sell you followers in exchange for money.  However, this is one of the worst things that you can do for your business’s reputation. When you buy followers, it’s painfully obvious to people who know how Instagram works.

Most of these followers are robots and won’t engage with your page. In order to gain a real following, you need real users who post real content and will, in turn, promote your profile.

Resorting to cheap techniques like buying followers will only look bad for you in the end.  A reputable company knows the importance of genuine followers, not fake ones.

Being Spammy

Even though the ultimate goal of your social media page is self-promotion, it shouldn’t come across that way.  Most experts recommend that less than a third of your content should be about promoting your product.

People will be turned off if you’re overly spammy or “salesy.” Make sure that your posts are interesting and engaging and only occasionally about trying to sell people something.

Not Using Hashtags

Most people know what hashtags are, but they don’t know how useful they can be!  In order to make yourself more visible, you should use hashtags to index your content.  When people search through hashtags they’ll be able to see you at the top of the page as someone relevant in that area.

Uses many hashtags does Instagram allow you. There’s no such thing as too much visibility.   Don’t forget the hashtags are only for images anymore. You can also use them in your stories and highlights.

Not Using Location Tags

Much like hashtags, location tags are just as useful. People will search through their favorite locations and see what other kinds of people are also there. It’s a great chance to meet people who frequent the same places and may have an interest in what you’re selling.

Not Interacting With Followers

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is failing to respond to your followers. The more of a following you get, the harder it can be to keep up.

However, it’s essential to try as hard as you can to show your appreciation for your followers’ engagement. Make sure to like, comment, and follow back in order to keep people’s interest.
