If you want to know how search engine crawlers see your site you should try using SEO-Browser. I know it’s a bit geeky but I actually like entering random sites into this very useful tool and seeing how optimised they are. It is surprising that given all the hype about SEO you will still find plenty of websites that does not take SEO into account at all. As an example (and I hope they don’t get mad but improve their site if they see this post) try entering Flatpak’s URL and parsing it using SEO-browser. Although I absolutely love Flatpak’s concept and their site is informative and even fun to navigate I am pretty sure that they are missing out on tons of customers because their site doesn’t list ANY keyword at all! The whole site is flash-based and apparently doesn’t even make use of meta-tags to help search engine crawlers know the contents of the site.
If you are not sure just how crawler-friendly your site is do check out your site using SEO-browser. If you find most of your keywords appearing on the parsed page then you’re doing pretty well. If not then it’s time you start paying attention to SEO advice and using keywords in your page title, headings, etc. as well as making use of Alt-tags.
