Regular bloggers know that even if you might consider yourself a relatively good writer most days you’ll be churning out pretty ordinary pieces – good but not spectacular. The are days though when you find yourself in the groove and come up with something that readers absolutely love. It doesn’t matter what your blog is about. This happens to all writers, whether you write a gadget blog or are into poetry. The question now is not whether you have great posts in your archive but if they’re easily searchable.
When it comes to blogs the common format doesn’t take into account your great posts. Soon as another entry is posted the older posts are moved back. Sure readers can skim through your posts using categories or the archive but only few would ever bother to read back enough to be able to root out the great posts. Because of this it is up to your to make sure that you get to flaunt your best pieces. By allowing your best posts to stay buried in the archives you are actually short-changing your readers and yourself. On the other hand, if you do make space in your sidebar to highlight your best posts you will make sure that…
-
*your readers always have something interesting to read even during your “off” days;
*first time readers will have a better chance of realizing how interesting your blog can be and so encourage them to subscribe; and
*simply make your weblog better in terms of usability.
