With writing, as in most other endeavors, people get to learn most of their best practices through experience. Though we can read and read about how to go about writing blog posts, there is nothing like actually writing day in and day out in order to learn from experience. Of course, what use is our knowledge if we do not share it with others? It is from this sort of thinking that I came up with the idea for a mini series on best practices for writing blog posts. I will be sharing my own practices, with the hopes that I can encourage others to do so as well.
Absorb information by reading and talking to other people.
I believe that this is one of the most vital aspects of writing entries for blogs. Without information coming from various sources, I just might run out of inspiration for posts. Although, of course, the play of words and expounding of ideas come from me, I acknowledge that my experiences around me are the seeds of those ideas. That is why it is important not to isolate yourself from the rest of the world.
Choose specific periods of time dedicated solely for writing.
This is very important for me, to become focused and be more productive. I have touched upon this subject several months ago but I cannot emphasize this enough. If you want to get the most out of your writing time, both in terms of quality and quantity, you need to have a specific window wherein writing will be your sole focus.
